Q5: Think for a moment about your district. What makes your district great? What makes you most proud?

North Kingstown is consistently one of the top districtis in the State.

Q6: What are the most important challenges you see in your district as we enter in to the 2015/2016 school year?

The high cost of out of district special ed placements. A need to sustain student achievement into the high school years.

PAGE 4: Requiring PARCC Testing
Q7: Does your district have a policy that requires students to participate in state wide testing (like PARCC)?
  • Other (please specify) Yes but I was not a member of the School Committee when the policy was adopted.
Q8: While there is not a state mandate to require students to participate in state assessments like PARCC, some districts have passed local policies that would require participation in the state assessments.  If your district were to propose a policy to require participation in state assessments, would you vote in favor of that policy?
  • Yes, I would vote in favor of a policy requiring students to participate in state assessments.
Q9: If you have other comments on PARCC or other testing policies, please share them here.

I see value in an assessment that works from a nationally and internationally benchmarked standard and is used to help us understand what and how our students are learning. Using an assessment used in many states also helps us learn how our students are doing in comparison to others regionally, nationally, and globally, rather than just North Kingstown or Rhode Island.
