ACLU – Rhode Island Chapter

The RIACLU has established itself as a strong voice in support of parental rights and educational choice.

In June 2015, the RIACLU petitioned the State Board of Education to revise its policy on Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements via Cover Letter and Text of Proposed Changes.  Claiming it was “premature,” the state Council on Elementary and Secondary Education voted 6-1 to deny the petition to initiate a public rule-making process to bar school districts from using high-stakes testing as a graduation requirement or grading tool before 2020.

In May 2015, the RI-ACLU sent letters to RI School Committees urging the delay of use of PARCC for graduation requirements.
